RE ORC Secret Report

zackhaensgn:

                                  Let’s Talk Resident Evil

Welcome back. As many of you know Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City has been getting a bad rap online from people who see it as a lack-luster game. However, I offer you a different opinion, so you can enjoy the game for what it is. Lets Talk about some of the improvements the game has made, and why this installment paves the way for Resident Evil Six.

Okay, let’s get real. Operation Raccoon City, is purely a hypothetical situation. There weren’t ever really any Wolf-pack or Spec-Ops teams sent in to Raccoon City. Umbrella covered everything up with a nuke anyway. So We are going to avoid a VERY long argument about the story, (many complain it was too short) when we must realize. This is an arcade version of the RE games we enjoy so much. The fact that they even crammed a story mode in there is down right spoiling us. I think we are all so used to games as long as Assassin’s Creed or Red Dead Redemption, that we forget that those stories are HELLA LONG. We forgot that a short, simple, and sweet story can exist. I won’t spoil any details about it, you’ll have to play it for yourself, and experience what the game has to offer.

Items. The item collection in this game has been shifted from survival, into tactical. You are now limited to one or two items of each type instead of trying to fit a surplus of items into your satchel. I find this to blend with the faster paced game in a better way then having to pause the game, and pick what you want to use, then jump back in. Now, the HUD allows everything to become streamline. You don’t have to stop and heal, you just spray yourself with magical green health spray and run while your doing it. I believe that Resident Evil Six will provide the satchel again, but with this arcade and multi-player factor involved, they had to switch up the method of how to collect items. It all comes back down to mobility, no more stopping on a sliver of health, and praying to god that a zombie doesn’t hit you when you get out of the paused menu.

Weapons. I haven’t played the game enough to unlock all of the weapons, but from what I can see, you can no longer upgrade weapons, or carry more then one primary weapon. One of the advantages of the satchel based item collection, was the ability to pack heat on a military scale. With the different item mechanic, we have to adapt. And frankly, I like one primary better. I like things when they are simple. I don’t have racing thoughts of “what gun would be best for what” because the game has placed weapons throughout the map, allowing you to adapt to a situation at hand. No need to worry about how much space a gun takes up, you just pick your gun with your character, and tell the world to go fuck itself. Plus, you have the ability to collect experience points, and use those to unlock newer, more powerful weapons. No need for the upgrades, when you can simply pick a superior fire-arm.

Okay. I will admit one thing, the sniping in this game is “HOLY BAT SHIT” terrible. If your a marksman in any other game, you won’t be one in this game unfortunately. In an attempt to keep the sniper rifle from becoming too powerful, they nerfed the hell out of it. Constraining you to stick to Sub-Machine guns, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and tactical gear. This is a blow to the game that I couldn’t really look over. Just for the fact that sniping was really fun and easy in all of the other installments of RE. Especially with RE 4. I loved the nostalgia of the bolt-action, and the efficiency of the Semi-Auto. Sniping in Operation Raccoon City is extremely fidgety, caused by an over-sensitive scope. And the Sniper Rifles have nothing but stopping power, and no ripping factor. Sure it stops a zombie in their tracks, but it takes several shots to put one down. It’s a high-powered rifle, you should be able to blow heads off with ease, but this is one fault that cannot be overlooked.

So, there you go. I’d like this to become a discussion, so send your thoughts. I’d love to hear them. I’ll be back with more tomorrow.

Stay Golden, *BANG*
